Auckland scored nine unanswered runs to record a come-from-behind 10-6 Brut Australian Baseball League win over Canberra on Friday night.
A resurgent eighth inning saw the Tuatara pile on six runs and take a 7-6 lead at The Fort at MIT Ballpark.
Max Brown's three-run homer run in the ninth gave Auckland a four-run buffer.
In a complete turnaround from game one, the Tuatara started the game with some confidence, scoring the first run of the night in the third inning.
Kuo Chen-Wei crossed home plate for the visitors following Zach Clark's ground ball single.
After a promising start by Auckland, Canberra piled on five runs in a dominant fourth inning, storming to a 5-1 lead.
It was an inning to forget for Tuatara pitchers Elliot Johnstone and Matt Wilson, walking four Cavalry batters with loaded bases.
Cam Warner then allowed Kyle Perkins to make it home after professionally executing a sacrifice fly to centre field.
Zach Wilson extended the Cavs' lead to 6-1 in the next inning, hitting a clean home run over left field.
However, it was Auckland's six runs in their late eighth-inning charge that proved decisive for the outcome.
Eric Jenkins' home run to right field kept the visitors hopes alive, with Zach Clark keeping the momentum rolling scoring following a walk to Nick Tanielu.
Max Brown and Kris Richards drove in runs ahead of Beau Bishop's RBI-double putting the Tuatara on top.
Game three of the series between Canberra and Auckland will start on Saturday night at 7pm.
